Dennis & Pat Toppins Reed

This page is dedicated to a friend I met on the internet.
I am writing this page because this is another family
from Slagle, WV. who will never get to see their hometown
as it was, because it doesn't exist anymore.

Her name is Patricia Ann Toppins Reed. She was born at Slagle, WV.
Her parents were: Ersel Toppins and Mary Lois Christian Toppins.
Patricia has 1 brother, Jim and 2 sisters, Mary & Linda.
Patricia is married to Dennis Reed. They own a wholesale, retail store.
Dennis & Patricia have 6 children and 10 grandchildren
and are also living in Ohio.

Mary Lois Christian Toppins passed away: 09-23-1995




Daniel Christian, Sr & Naomi Barker Christian (Pats grandparents)


Her grandparents lived at Slagle when her father met her mother in about 1946.
Her father got a job in a coal mine on Rum Creek and was living in a boarding
house there. Her mother lived with her parents in a coal camp house in Slagle.
Her grandfather Daniel, was also a coal miner.

Daniel and Naomi had another son, James Edward, who died at Slagle when he was a baby. James was buried at a cemetery on Lowes Mountain.

After Daniel and Naomi moved from Slagle to Switzer, WV, they had a daughter, Wanda "Diane" Christian. Diane was born January 11, 1950 and died April 4, 2004.
Diane worked as a Librarian at the Community College in Logan for over 30 years. She married Donald Browning and they had one child.

Sharon, Brenda(deceased), Carol Lee(deceased).

I am sure a lot of people from Slagle will remember these
families. Alice Christian (Pats aunt) married Tennis Wooten.
They had 3 sons: Raymond, Thomas & Dannie and 3 daughters:
Sharon, Brenda & Carol Lee.
Sharon married Clyde Maynard and has 4 children and 8
grandchildren. Clyde and Sharon own a carpet business.

Dannie lives in Ohio and has a son Jeff and a daughter Amy.
Dannie works at the Cabell Hospital in Huntington, WV.
Raymond, Thomas, Brenda and Carol Lee are all deceased.
Carol Lee was killed at the age of 3 when
a room of a house blew down on her.
