God Is Near

Dogwood, redbud, new April green,
Washed by Spring's fresh showers clean.
Blossom-perfumed breezes rare
Whisper gently of God's care.
Clump of Sweet Williams, violets wild,
Singing of birds, laughter of a child,
These combine in a message clear.
"God is near! God is near!"

Cedar-rimmed clouds near close of day
Voices of children hard at play,
Evening star, night sounds in air -
All to remind us of God's care.

Our Father sees each bird in air,
He planned their notes so sweet and clear.
While lilies grow in beauty rare
Because God's love is everywhere.

These are photos of the Slagle Missionary
Baptist Church taken in 1998. This church was
beautiful back in the 1950's and 60's.


My sisters, Linda, Sharon, Delores and brother Roy, Jr and I,
from the Roy Smith Famiy, attended this church.

We loved going to vacation bible school at this church.
We have a lot of fond memories of kids we went
to church with and of Ms. Leota Campbell.
