The Troubled Mind

Sometimes I grow weak and weary
and my heart is filled with pain.
I feel like taking poison
and ending it all some day.

But then would it end my sorrows
in the great judgement day to come,
when I would stand by our Jesus,
and see the awful thing I had done?

Oh! take up the cross for Jesus-
and get evil out of your mind
just think of that verse in the bible
and tell satan to get behind.

And after you have done your
work here on earth
and the long race is won,
He will take you up in heaven
for the good deeds you have done.

The poem above was written by:
Mamie M Fox Smith.

It was written in 1931 when she was only seventeen. She was newly wed, pregnant with her first child and living with her mother-in-law.

My mother was born,
Mamie Mae Fox on August 28, 1914.

The following photo was taken at Crystal Block, WV.
in 1927 when mother was 13 years old.

She and some of her girl friends were
putting on a play, just to have
something to do.

For lack of anything better to do,
they made their dresses out of paper
(yes, that is a paper dress).

They had already taken one roll of film and
laid the camera down to chase a little girl home.
a car came along, stopped, grabbed their camera
and fled with the rest of the film.

When mothers dad took the film to have it developed,
he had this picture put on a mirror as a surprise for her.

  Mother age 13

As you can tell, my mother was a very troubled soul, but with the help of JESUS,
she has made it this far.

She is now 88 years young, raised 9 children and is a "JESUS ONLY" girl.
