EMPTY NEST
By: Aunt Betty J. Sanders
07-14-1997
In my back yard the kittens play
and once I heard my neighbor say
It's different from the days gone by
and is it true, how time flys?

How are the children?, someone asked
then I hear voices from the past
whispering through the tall pine trees
softly spoken in the breeze
We're still here, the voices say
our love is with you everyday.

The poem above was written by my Aunt Betty
after her son Ted, daughter-in-law, Sharie and her
grandchildren, Amy and T. R. had moved to N.C..
Aunt Betty had taken care of the children from
2 1/2 years of age while Ted and Sharie worked.
They had been with her for 16 1/2 years.
The children had brought the pine trees home
from 1st grade in foam cups.
Their grandfather Drew, planted the trees,
never dreaming they would become 24 ft and 20 ft. tall.
Aunt Betty was living in Huntington, WV at the time
the children left for N. C., so needless to say
she missed them very much.
